JOSEPH STALIN

external image 220px-StalinPortrait.jpg
Because of his important military decisions and actions, Joseph Stalin is one of the most influential people in all of history. One of his most important military actions was the capture of Berlin. At around April 30, 1945, Joseph Stalin, who was the People’s Commissar for Defense of the Soviet Union, sent two marshals to capture the bleak city of Berlin. The two marshals were Georgy Zhukov and Ivan Konev. Zhukov was set with an army of a million men, while Konev had an army of two hundred eighty thousand men. Before the Soviet’s could find them, Adolf Hitler, the leader of Nazi Germany, committed suicide, along with his wife. By the end of it all, there were ninety thousand casualties for the Soviet armies, and Nazi Germany was defeated. Furthermore, under Joseph Stalin’s regime, it is estimated that three to eighty million people were killed. People under his regime died from things like famine, deportation, executions and gulags, which are labor camps where many people died. An example of one the famines that killed so many people is the Ukrainian famine, where an estimated three to five million people died. Joseph Stalin has definitely made his mark on history as one of the most influential people of all time.

THE LONG AND BORING ROAD

The life of a wealthy man is a long perfect road.
It has no bumps or potholes to worry about.
It has no traffic at all to slow you down.
It has no turns or twists or hills or cracks.
No challenge.
No change.
No surprise.
And all the while, everyone desires this kind of life.
4's for both. Good job on Stalin. Your poem makes an interesting point. I like it. Mr. Chester

Turkey protests spread after violence in Istanbul over park demolition

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/may/31/istanbul-protesters-violent-clashes-police

Summary:In Istanbul there is a very well known park, the equivalent of New York's Central Park. As officials announce they plan to tear it down, replacing it with a shopping mall, citizens become outraged. "They can do whatever they want", said Turkey's Prime Minister, "we've made our decision, and we will do as we have decided." Recep Tayyip Erdogen's arrogance has intensified the Istanbul protests, for he had also made recent bans on alcohol and kissing in public. These protests are planned to continue until demands of the protesters are met: an ideal democratic regime.
